quiche

it's a perfect fall saturday - sunshine, the leaves are beautiful colors, and just the right amount of cool air outside.  this saturday, the city is my park.  the kitchen is my playground.  and this chai tea is my comfort.

it's also a day begging for quiche and fresh fruit.  maybe some toast and apple butter.

hungry yet?

brie

i found some discounted brie at the grocery store today, on account of its expiration date nearing.  i've always wanted to try baked brie, so i figured this would be the perfect opportunity.

i brought it home, unwrapped it, and layered it with brown sugar and almonds.

then, i put it in the oven!

here it is in its ooey goodness:

it tasted divine.  i wish i could have eaten the whole thing.  instead, this cute little monster devoured it whole.  i rounded the corner and it was gone!

the day, another

listening to amy millan today.  it's so ironic how the song 'blue in your eyes' has a happy banjo plucking away, while the lyrics are so sad:

Ain't it hard to keep your eyes closed sometimes
Ain't it hard to turn away
Ain't it hard to feel the sunshine sometimes
It feels just like another rainy day

love it.  today is a soup, rain boots, seattle, hot bevs, fireplace kind of day.  i love it almost as much as the sunny days.  the only thing is, we've had a lot of these kind of days in a row.  i'm just about ready for some sun.  it's starting to feel like i'm perpetually waking up in seattle.

gonna go to the fruit market, but reservedly make some purchases.  i'm holding out for diving tonight.  the rain is supposed to stop around 4 o'clock.  there's a new documentary about dumpster diving called 'dive!'.  haven't seen it yet.

dear relient k:
i feel like we've sort of grown up together.  your sound has matured, we've both gotten a bit older.  i mean, your songs even have some intros and outros now.  but on forget & not slow down, you run the risk of sounding a lot like other bands.  mae covered that sound about 5 years ago.  there's still a bit of what i've always loved about you, but you've gotten sort of cookie-cutter predictable.

i'm not saying i won't listen, because i am right now, but just know that you're running a risk.  i think i'll either end up loving this disk or getting really tired of it in a couple of weeks.

The word disciple means "a learner", but Jesus infused into the simple word a wealth of profound meaning.  As used by Him and by Paul, it means "a learner or pupil who accepts the teaching of Christ, not only in belief but also in lifestyle."  This involves acceptance of the views and practice of the Teacher.  In other words, it means learning with the purpose to obey what is learned.  It involves a deliberate choice, a definite denial, and a determined obedience.

trees

If God treats the tree like a tree, the machine like a machine, the man like a man, shouldn't I, as a fellow-creature, do the same -- treating each thing in integrity in its own order? And for the highest reason: because I love God -- I love the One who has made it! Loving the Lover who has made it, I have respect for the thing He has made. (Francis A. Schaeffer, Pollution and the Death of Man, 1972, Ch. 4)

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
       Whatever he does prospers.

Psalm 1
